The author of this blog has often been branded an incorrigible chatterbox, and she unfortunately cannot disagree with that all-too-common claim.
Currently nearing the end of the second and final year of her pre-university studies, the author still soldiers gallantly on in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at ACS (Independent) in Singapore.
The author does occasionally wish that she was blessed with a slightly larger dollop of scientific (and mathematic) genius. Now that IB is as deeply ensconced in her system as a snake’s fangs irreversibly rooted in its victim’s flesh, even the ostensibly undemanding HL subject combination of English A1, History and Econs doesn’t seem too kindly. With the last gruelling round of examinations looming like the shadow of the economic/environmental crisis on posterity, the author feels the pressure mounting on her increasingly enervated shoulders.
The author is proud that she has refused to allow her friends’ choruses of “Chinese B; seven points” to affect her resolve in her pursuit of yet another language – this time having gone for the agreeably honeyed and dulcet language spoken by Descartes, Berlioz and Zidane. The author has had absolutely no regrets whatsoever, for her language bank is – to her utmost delight – probably one of the few banks in the world that is still growing healthily in this climate. Her learning of the slightly more gravelly language from the heart of Europe has not ceased, and she is quite pleased to say that with passage of time – almost six years now, what was once deemed vulgar and abrasive has been sandpapered to a gratifying Central European brogue.
In the free time that the brutally selfish IB Diploma Programme very rarely deals out, devouring of books – recently very skewed towards non-fiction (perhaps due to the nature of the author’s academic interests), magazines (both virtual and concrete), and articles (especially from the very lovely Arts and Letters Daily) uplift her spirits greatly. Music makes the author’s world go round, and though her musical roots are firmly planted in classical soil, any good music from any genre could qualify for a place on her playlists. Addiction isn’t usually part of the author’s vocabulary, but she has to admit, not at all reluctantly, that she’s hooked on the QI (and Monty Python) drug.
The author hopes her site can serve as a good grazing ground for the hungry eyes of the many voracious readers out there, though some posts might be kept out of sight of unwanted, prying visitors. She hopes you will enjoy the company of her humble words and read happily.
